NOTES: Near Skopje and Prishtina in the Albanian Alps , the Ski Centar Brezovica ski area was once a very nice regional ski area with nine lifts accessing a maximum altitude of 2,656m from a base of 1,700m. The ski area covers 2,550 hectares on the north slopes of Shar Mountain. The 15km of slopes are divided into 45% beginner, 45% intermediate and 10% advances. Many consider Brezovica the best mountains in the Balkans.
If running, take the two-person chairlift to the high point and head left into the open bowl for a freeriders that ends with glades. There are also several hiking options here with interesting terrain to explore.
To reach the snowboarding at Brezovica Ski Centre, fly into Skopje or Pristina. It takes about an hour to reach the ski area, which is on the border with Albania and Montenegro in southern Kosovo in the Shterpce province.
Note: Make sure to call in advance before heading to this ski area. There have been reports that various lifts at the facility are closed. Also, it is not recommended to rent a car outside of Kosovo and drive it into Kosovo due to insurance and vandalism issues.
