Between Melbourne and Sydney, theMount Hotham Alpine Resort has a nice trail system, plus access to plenty of backcountry around Mt. Loch and Razorback.
From the Hotham summit near the fire tower, there are great backcountry bowls worth exploring. Stay to the southwest to reach the road below near the Diamentina Shelter. For the adventurous, try the Razorback and the route up Mt. Feathertop.
To reach the snowboarding at Hotham from Melbourne, follow the Hume Freeway towards Sydney. At the McDonalds restaurant, turn right. In Hotham near the ski bridge, there are many commercial lodges. Marouka Lodge is about 1 km further just past Big D on the right.
Overall, Mount Hotham Alpine Resort is the 3rd most popular snowboard & freeride destination of all 4 snowboarding resorts in Australia.
