Southeast of Sofia, the Borovets ski centre is the most popular in Bulgaria and is Eastern Europes largest. The Borovets Ski Area has 20 pistes totaling 58km served by 14 lifts (mainly drags) accessing a max vertical of 1,260m. While Borovets Ski Area is mainly known as a place for intermediates, you can find some challenge under the gondola line.
The Borovets snowboarding pistes are grouped in three regions: Sitnqkovo – Martinovi Baraki – pistes; Markudjik- 4 pistes and Qstrebec- 3 pistes. The pistes on Qstrebets are the best.
It is situated on the conterminous Borovets col and on the northern slopes of the Mousala ridge in the eastern part of Rila. Huddled in venerable pine woods 1390 meters above the sea level (with highest pistes at 2600 m)makes it a perfect place for relax and recreation. Usually the slopes of Borovets have snow cover from mid December till April.
Borovets is also easy accessible- 12 kilometers long first class road connects it with Samokov; Sofia (the capital of Bulgaria) is just 72 kilometers away. There is a regular bus transport as for Samokov every 30 minutes.
Borovets is full of bars, cafes, night clubs, and discos. The night life is excellent at this resort (Buzz bar, Mamacitas, Bonkers disco, etc). This resort is known as the most interesting ski centre regarding party time. Music played is mostly international dance music. Very often special shows are presented at the clubs. There are available restaurants and taverns with Bulgarian national folk music and horo dancing, which some people find very interesting. When snowboarding and freeriding internationally, it is important to get a travel insurance policy that covers emergency rescue, medical expense and evacuation. There are many destinations that will not initiate rescue or medical treatment without prior payment or proof of insurance. In many cases, the rescue fees, medical fees or evacuation to a reputable hospital can total tens of thousands of dollars. Plans such as GEOS SAR100 or IMG Patriot Travel Medical Insurance are well worth the per-trip cost of $130 to $200 USD.
Overall, Borovets Ski Centre is the 1st most popular snowboard & freeride destination of all 4 snowboarding resorts in Bulgaria.
