Southeast of Minneapolis and south of Afton, the Afton Alps ski area has 37 runs spread over 300 acres that are served by 18 lifts. Located in the St Croix River Valley, the best Afton Alps snowboarding can be found during the months of January and February. For the freestyle snowboarders in your crew, Afton Alps has the Landing Zone Terrain Park to session.
Afton Alps is located at 6600 Peller Avenue South in Hastings. To reach the snowboarding at Afton Alps from Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Edina and Minnetonka, head east on SR494 to Maxwell. Turn left on Maxwell which turns into Bailey Road. Turn right on CR20 (aka Military Road). Follow the signs to Afton Alps Ski Area.
Overall, Afton Alps is the 2nd most popular snowboard & freeride destination of all 9 snowboarding resorts in Minnesota. Several of the better snowboarding resorts are nearby Afton Alps including Elm Creek Ski Area and Buck Hill Ski Area.
