Near Freeland, the Apple Mountain ski area has 12 snowboarding trails.

To reach the snowboarding at Apple Mountain Ski Area from the south (Detroit/Flint) via US75, exit at US675 for Saginaw. Follow US675 for 6 miles to Tittabawassee Road. Turn left heading west on Tittabawassee Road for 12 miles. Just past the river, turn left heading south on North River Road. At the stop sign, look for the entrance to Apple Mountain Ski Area.
