Southwest of Albany near Highmount in the Catskill Forest Preserve, the Belleayre ski area has 29 runs spread across 171 acres that are served by 6 lifts with a maximum descent of 1,400 feet. Make sure to check out the Winnisook trail terrain park. The best Belleayre Mountain snowboarding is typically found during the months of January and February.
To reach the ski area from the north or the south, follow NYS Thruway (US87) to Exit #19 for Kingston. Then, head west on SR28 to Highmount. Belleayre will be on your left at the top of the hill after passing the Village of Pine Hill. It is about a 2.5 hour drive from NYC and 1.5 hours from Albany.
Overall, Belleayre Mountain Ski Area is the 5th most popular snowboard & freeride destination of all 15 snowboarding resorts in New York. Several of the better snowboarding resorts are nearby Belleayre Mountain Ski Area including Plattekill Mountain Ski Area, Hunter Mountain Ski Area and Windham Mountain Ski Area.
