Southwest of Salzburg, the quiet Tyrolean town of St. Johann is picturesque with the outline of Kitzbuhlerhorn forming part of the valley. The Schneewinkl ski area has 19 forested pistes served by 17 lifts accessing a maximum vertical drop of 1,010m. The pistes are ideal for beginners and intermediates. There is limited expert terrain.
After a morning of snowboarding, check out the Gasthof Hockfeld for lunch. After the lifts stop spinning, try apres ski at cafe Rainer. An authentic dinner can be found at Edelweiss, and some nightlife may be found at Max Pub and the Crowded House.
To reach the snowboarding at St. Johann in Tirol from Salzburg, follow Route 215 west through Germany. Near Lofer, head west on Route 704 and then head southwest on Route 312 to St. Johann. The village of St Johann In Tirol has a truly authentic feel and makes a great base to stay.
Overall, St. Johann in Tirol is the 6th most popular snowboard & freeride destination of all 75 snowboarding resorts in Austria.
