Southwest of Calgary and Pincher, the Castle Mountain ski area has 58 runs open to snowboarding with a maximum vertical of 2800 feet spread over 1500 acres. This is a remote and undiscovered paradise. Its steep, cheap and deep. Try $25 lift tickets and $6 pitchers of beer. Try no lift lines.
Its just east of the Divide from Fernie, but about 1,000 feet higher. So while it may be raining in Fernie, its dumping pow at Castle!
For some out-of-bounds challenge, try Shooters on the backside.
Castle Mountain Resort is located just east of the continental divide in southwest Alberta, only 2 1/2 hours southwest of Calgary. It is nestled in the Westcastle valley surrounded by Gravenstafel Mountain, Barnaby Ridge and Haig Mountain.
For apres ski, check out the T-Bar Pub. For alittle nightlife, try Picks Roadhouse in Coleman.
Overall, Castle Mountain Ski Area is the 2nd most popular snowboard & freeride destination of all 9 snowboarding resorts in Alberta.
