Northeast of Kamloops, the Sun Peaks ski area has 121 runs spread over 4,270 acres that are served by 11 lifts with a maximum vertical of 2,894 feet. Spread across three peaks, Sun Peak Resort is the second largest ski area in Canada. It is well known for its 12 gladed areas and the intermediate 5 mile long run.
To reach the snowboarding at Sun Peaks by air, fly into either Kamloops airport (YKA) or Kelowna airport (YLW), which are served by major airlines. There is usually regular shuttle bus service from the airports to the resort, but make sure to confirm that it will be meeting your specific flight. The shuttle buses take about an hour.
To reach the snowboarding at Sun Peaks from Kamloops, head east on Trans Canada Highway 1 to the Highway 5 exit for Jasper. Head north on Highway 5 for three traffic lights to Heffly Creek turn-off (about 20 minutes). Turn right onto the Heffley Creek turn-off and continue to the General Store. Turn left following Sun Peak signs up the mountain into the resort village (about 25 minutes).
