Northwest of Montpelier and Stowe, the Smugglers Notch Resort has 78 runs spread over 310 acres served by 7 lifts that accesses a maximum vertical descent of 2,600 feet. The runs have a level of difficulty ranging from 20% easy to 50% intermediate to 30% difficult. Smugglers Notch consists of three inter-connected mountains that comprise Vermonts biggest vertical drop. Morse Mountain rises directly out of the resort village and is the beginners haven. Sterling Mountain's terrain appeals to intermediates. Madonna Mountain is the more challenging peak with the popular gladed Doc Dempseys Run, and the only triple black-diamond trail in the East, called The Black Hole which is located in Freefall Woods. There is a newer gladed trail called Attitude that was cut on Madonna Mountain that is accessed via the Lower Drifter Trail. In addition to the 310 acres of groomed runs, there are 750 acres of glades between the groomers. The best Smugglers Notch snowboarding can be found during the months of January and February.
For the freestyle snowboarders in your crew, Smugglers Notch has three terrain parks geared more for beginners and intermediates. These "Basin Parks" are called Powder Puff (easy), Blue Grousse (easy/intermediate), and Orsons, which is the intermediate park with jumps and rails.
After a long day of snowboarding at Smuggs, the best bet for apres ski is Brewskis.
