West of Bend, the Mount Bachelor ski area has 88 runs spread over 4,300 acres served by 13 lifts accessing a maximum vertical descent of 3,365 feet. As known by local snowboarders, Bachelor gets an impressive average annual snowfall of 460 inches. Some of the better snowboarding can be found in the West Bowls where the snow above the treeline is surprisingly light for the Cascades. The Outback Chair serves up some challenging runs worth exploring. The Mount Bachelor ski area has five terrain park zones that are blended in with some natural terrain features. On a pow day, head up to the summit and drop backside down the double-black "Land Of Plenty" for a descent of 3,365 feet.

To reach the snowboarding at Mt. Bachelor Ski Area from Bend, head west on Franklin Street and follow to Galveston Street. Turn right heading west on Galveston Street crossing the river. Continue on Galveston Street to the round-about at NW14th Street. Head south on NW14th Street (aka CR372 and FS46) for 19.8 miles. The ski area is on the left.
