North of Durango in Silverton, the Kendall Mountain Ski Area has 4 runs spread over 35 acres that are served by 1 lift with a maximum vertical descent of 240 feet. This is a small local ski area that complements the larger Silverton backcountry ski area. It's perfect if you bring kids along while you're up at the Silverton Mountain. For some apres ski, try the new Golden Block Brewery, Miners Tavern, Gradys Bar or Explorers Club.
To reach the snowboarding at Kendall Mountain Ski Area from the south, head north on US550 over Coal Bank and Molas Passes. From the North, take US550 over Red Mountain Pass. Drive into Silverton, turn right at Town Hall (14th Street). Kendall Mountain is at the end of the road (approx 4 blocks). The nearest airport is Durango–La Plata County Airport (DRO), which is served by United Airlines and American Airlines.
TIP: The Kendal Mountain Ski Area is only open Friday through Sunday.
