Northeast of Ljubljana and south of Graz, the Pohorje Mariborsko Ski Area has 23 pistes totaling 42km that are served by 16 lifts. Located in the Pohorje mountains, it is the largest ski area in Slovenia with its wide, spread layout. To the challenge of snowboarders, it is known for numerous drag lifts. With its remote location, it rarely sees any English-speaking tourists. The best Pohorje snowboarding can be found during the months of January and February.
The Pohorje Ski Area has mainly beginner level pistes. However, it is lift-interconnected with the higher Areh ski area. The interconnection between the lifts and the ski areas are pretty flat for snowboarding. Luckily, there is a bus between the ski areas, too.
When planning a trip to Pohorje, keep in mind that the snowfall is known to be unpredictable. If it does snow, there are great glades to explore.
Located south of Maribor, the ski area is roughly a 2 hour drive from Ljublijana. The best place to stay is the nearby town of Maribor, which is about 15 minutes by car. There is a regular bus service from the main bus station in Maribor to the Pohorje ski area by using Bus Route #6.
Overall, Pohorje Ski Area is the 2nd most popular snowboard & freeride destination of all 7 snowboarding resorts in Slovenia.
