North of Barcelona and Les Escaldes, the El Tarter ski area has 18 pistes served by 6 lifts accessing a maximum descent of 800m. There is a freeride zone located at Emcampadana which is between the Tamarro and Isard pistes. The best El Tarter snowboarding can usually be found during the months of January and February.
The El Tarter ski area is part of the Grandvalira ski region where one lift pass provides access to the Soldeu ski area, the Pas de la Casa ski area, the Grau Roig ski area, the El Tarter ski area, the Canillo ski area and the Encamp ski area. Overall, the Grandvalira ski arena provides access to over 60 pistes totaling 210km that are served by 32 lifts with a maximum descent of 800m. The most challenge you will find here is to try starting at one end of the resort complex and interconnect lifts in the ski area to get from end to end and back in one day. The best apres ski can be found in Pas de la Casa, while the best nightlife can be found in Soldeu such as at Fat Alberts, the Pussycat Disco or the Aspen.
