North of Tbilisi, the Gudauri ski area has 16 runs totaling 50km served by 5 lifts that access a maximum descent of 1,020m. In addition to the marked snowboarding pistes, there are numerous backcountry freeride routes to explore including little hikeable couloirs. From the top station, it is possible to snowboard off the north backside of the summit down to a road and catch a taxi back to the base (guide recommended). Also, from the gondola summit, there is a fleet of snowmobiles to whisk snowboarders further into the backcountry. If that's not enough, one of the more popular features of Gudauri is the heli-ski operation (when it operates).
The Gudauri Ski Resort is Georgia's most popular and largest ski area. The base area is at 1,990m and the top lift is at 3,007m. All of the groomed pistes are well above the treeline. It is important to remember that the lifts only run from 10am to 4pm.
The best access for Gudauri Ski Resort is to fly into Tbilisi. It is a 120km drive which takes about 1.5 hours. It is recommended to prearrange a hired car unless you speak Georgian. While there is a cheap bus, there is no fixed schedule and all written information is in Georgian.
Note: make sure to apply for a Visa several months prior to arriving in Georgia.
Overall, Gudauri Ski Resort is the 3rd most popular snowboard & freeride destination of all 5 snowboarding resorts in Republic Of Georgia.
