Northwest of Sterzing-Vipiteno, the Rosskopf Ski Area has 10 pistes totaling 20km that served by 3 lifts accessing a vertical descent of 1000m. Also known as the Monte Cavallo ski area, the most snowboarders spend their time of the upper third of the mountain wher the reliable snowpack can be found and use the gondola from town to uplift and downlift from the mid-station. There is a new 5.5km piste that finally runs from the mid-station back down to town. Advanced riders may find some good off-piste lines to explore. The best Roskopf Monte Cavallo snowboarding is during the months of January and February.
The nearby town of Sterzing-Vipiteno is very authentic with plenty of charm along the main pedestrian zone. It makes a great base for exploring the pistes of Rosskopf Monte Cavallo.
To reach the snowboarding at Rosskopf Monte Cavallo, there is a convenient train station in Sterzing-Vipiteno that is served by trains from the north (Innsbruck) and the south (Bolzano). It is also easy to drive from the north (Innsbruck) over Brenner Pass. There is a ski bus from the train station to the gondola base.
Overall, Rosskopf Monte Cavallo is the 17th most popular snowboard & freeride destination of all 56 snowboarding resorts in Italy. Several of the better snowboarding resorts are nearby Rosskopf Monte Cavallo including Val Senales-Schnaltal Ski Area, Ratschings-Jaufen and Pfelders Plan.
