Northeast of Innsbruck and east of Jenbach, the Alpbachtal ski area has 54 pistes served by 21 lifts accessing 800m of vertical. This small ski area is known for it's intermediate snowboarding. But although small, there is some excellent off-piste freeriding, such as Ski Route 1 leading to Achenwirt and then you can head into the glades on the way to Ski Route 5 heading down to InnerAlpbach. Further afield, you can hire a guide to access the powder, such as on the Kohlgrube route.
After a morning of snowboarding, look for the on-mountain lunch options including the Wiedersberghorn Hutte and the Berggasthaus Horndboden.
For some apres ski action, try The Halle in the Boeglerhof and the Jakober. For nightlife, check out the Post Alm and the Waschkuchl.
For an unique dinner, head to the Gasthof Rossmoss, where you can sledge your way back down into town afterwards.
Note: If you stay in Alpbach, you will need to take a short ski bus to access the main lifts for the Wiedersberger Horn.
To reach the snowboarding at Alpbach, take the train to the Brixlegg train station. Then, catch the local bus to Alpbach.
Overall, Alpbachtal is the 34th most popular snowboard & freeride destination of all 67 snowboarding resorts in Austria.
