Northwest of Cranbrook and west of Invermere in the Purcells, the Jumbo Glacier Ski Resort is a proposed ski area development spread over 14,640 acres accessed by 23 lifts with a maximum vertical descent of 5,600 feet. There will also be 2,300 feet of vertical summer glacial snowboarding. The goal was to have the resort open for the Winter 2016/2017 season, but their environmental permit expired and they are working to get a new permit. In August 2018, the BC Supreme Court has ruled that the Minister Of Environment needs to redetermine if the permit has really expired and if the project can proceed.
To reach the snowboarding at Jumbo Glacier Ski Resort from Invermere, there will be 22 mile access road that heads west from Invermere.
Overall, Jumbo Glacier Ski Resort is the 24th most popular snowboard & freeride destination of all 27 snowboarding resorts in British Columbia.
