Northwest of Ljubljana in the Julian Alps along the Italian border, the Kanin-Blovec Ski Resort has seven pistes served by 7 lifts accessing a maximum vertical drop of 640m. The 15km of pistes are located well above town, so there is a gondola to a mid-station. You'll spend the day riding above the mid-station and then take the gondola back down at the end of the day.
A bonus of snowboarding at Kanin-Blovec Ski Resort is that it interconnects across the Julian Alps with the Italian ski area of Sella Nevea, which has 12km of slopes. After crossing the high pass at 2,292m, you can ride down 1,150m to the Sella Nevea base (1,140m).
There are numerous freeriding routes to explore. One of the best is the long freeriding route from 2,300m and heading down to 980m in the Krnica Valley. Just beware of the high avalanche danger.
Overall, Kanin-Blovec Ski Resort is the 7th most popular snowboard & freeride destination of all 7 snowboarding resorts in Slovenia.
