South of Luzerne, the Melchsee-Frutt ski area has twelve pistes totaling 32km that are served by twelve lifts that access a maximum descent of 1160m. While popular with daytrippers on the weekends, this family-friendly ski area is popular with beginner and intermediate snowboarders. One of the most popular routes is the black piste from Bonistock to Stockalp which descend 1000m over 7km.
The car-free town of Melchsee-Frutt (2,000m) makes a great base. To reach Melchsee-Frutt by air, fly into Zurich International Airport (ZRH). Take the train south through downtown Zurich connecting to Sarnen. There is a bus to the cable car base in Stockalp. It takes about 2.5 hours.
Overall, Melchsee-Frutt is the 37th most popular snowboard & freeride destination of all 80 snowboarding resorts in Switzerland.
