Southeast of Zurich and northwest of Landquart, the Toggenburg ski area has 60km of pistes served by 17 lifts with a maximum descent of 1300m. It is known for long challenging pistes and several off-piste ski routes. The ski area is served by three lift-interconnected bases including the villages of Wildhaus, Unterwasser and Alt St Johann. These small base areas are situated at low elevation and don't have much in the way of services. It is known for long challenging intermediate-level pistes and several off-piste ski routes. The longest ski route leads out of the ski area from the Gamserrugg summit and leads through a remote area down to the Tobelsäge bus stop on the Sägeboden road (Highway 16).

To reach the snowboarding at Toggenburg ski area from Zurich, take the train south to Buchs. In Buchs, there is a public bus (#790) that heads northwest up to the ski area villages. From the vilalges, there is a free ski bus with an extensive reach through the surrounding valleys.
Overall, Toggenburg is the 63rd most popular snowboard & freeride destination of all 87 snowboarding resorts in Switzerland.
