South of Zurich and southeast of Schwyz, the Stoos ski area has 35km of pistes served by 8 lifts that access a maximum descent of 650m. While known as a family-friendly ski area, Stoos does cater to the advanced intermediate snowboarders, too. The best Stoos snowboarding is usually during the months of February and March.

From each side of the alpine village of Stoos, there are two main lifts heading up each side of the valley to opposite peaks. The Fronalpstock lift is home to the popular red piste #2 (known as Panoramique) but be prepared for the couple of flat sections. The Klingenstock lift has several challenging off-piste lines worth exploring. If you're looking for an expert line, try the Ski Route #19 off the Klingenstock summit.

Pros
• Family-friendly ski area.
• Easy access from Lucerne and Zurich.
• Inexpensive ski lift pass.
• Some off-piste lines.

Cons
• Small ski area.
• Crowded on the weekends.
• Main lifts are across the village from each other.

To reach Stoos by air, fly into Zurich International Airport and take the train to the main Zurich train station. Then connect to the Schwyz station. There are buses heading to the several cable cars and funicular railways heading up to the car-free village of Stoos.

Overall, Stoos is the 49th most popular snowboard & freeride destination of all 87 snowboarding resorts in Switzerland.
