Southeast of Pau in the Pyrenees, the Domain Tourmalet ski area connecting La Mongie and Bareges offers good snowboarding with the steepest slopes in the Pyrenees. Spread over four valleys, the ski area has 100km of pistes served by 36 lifts with a maximum vertical descent of 550m. The village of Bareges offers quaint historic charm, but the village of La Mongie up at Col du Tormalet pass is more of a concrete purpose-built resort.

If you are looking for some challenging off-piste, head up to Pic du Midi via the La Mongie cable car.

After a morning of shredding, try grabbing an on-mountain lunch up at Chez Louisette above Bareges or at Etape du Berger above La Mongie.

Overall, La Mongie-Bareges is the 41st most popular snowboard & freeride destination of all 47 snowboarding resorts in France.
