Southeast of Grenoble and northeast of Chamonix, the Les Carroz ski domaine has 29 pistes served by 12 lifts with a maximum vertical descent of 700m. The Les Carroz ski domaine is part of the larger interconnected Grand Massif ski region, which has 265km of pistes served by 69 lifts with a maximum vertical descent of 1,770m (5,800 feet). The Grand Massif ski region interconnects five villages including the larger Flaine and Samoens. In Les Carroz, there are 15 steep black pistes to test your skills, such as the Piste des Cascades.
Over in the Flaine ski domaine, the best snowboarding can be found in the Flaine bowl. For steeps, check out Styx, Diamond Noir and the piste to Samoens. For off-piste freeriding, you can check out Gers Bowl.
To reach the snowboarding in the Les Carroz ski domaine by air, fly into Geneva. There is a train to Cluses and then there are daily buses for the final 30km to Les Carroz. Don't expect too much from the village of Les Carroz since it is on a very busy road and lacks traditional charm.
Overall, Les Carroz is the 42nd most popular snowboard & freeride destination of all 50 snowboarding resorts in France. Several of the better snowboarding resorts are nearby Les Carroz including Samoens and Flaine.
