South of Salzburg and northeast of Lienz, the Mölltaler Glacier has 14 pistes served by 6 lifts accessing a maximum vertical descent of 1000m. There is an extensive freeriding area which is well mapped. The two main freeriding routes are the Variant Baumbachspitze-Sportgastein via Schlapperebenkees off Piste #10 and the Variation Schareck-Sportgastein from the lower section of Piste #3 down to the Schwarzkopf lift base.
To reach the snowboarding at Molltal Glacier, the only option is to come from the south via Lienz or Villach. The nearest train station is Lienz or Mallnitz. There isn’t much at the ski area base, so you may want to stay down valley in the village of Molltal.
Overall, Molltal Glacier is the 55th most popular snowboard & freeride destination of all 64 snowboarding resorts in Austria. Several of the better snowboarding resorts are nearby Molltal Glacier including Grossglockner Matrei-Kal, Lienzer Dolomiten Bergbahnen, Grossglockner Heilgenblut and Ankogel Mallnitz.
