Southeast of Salzburg near Obertraun on Lake Hallstatt, the Dachstein Krippenstein ski area has 3 main pistes along with plenty of off-piste terrain served by 6 lifts accessing a maximum vertical descent of 1500m. Located in the Salzkammergut region of Upper Austria, the Freesports Arena Dachstein Krippenstein is a freeriders paradise with over 30 km of off-piste lines to explore. The Dachstein plateau is known for its deep powder and glacier snowboarding. There are plenty of rocky ridges and drops to check out incluidng Eisgrube, Imisl and Schoenberg. In addition to its infamous off-piste terrain, there is also an 11km groomed piste from the top lift station to the valley floor, which is the longest run in Austria.
The best way to get to the snowboarding at Dachstein Krippenstein ski area is by train with the station in Obertraun (Obertraun Dachsteinhöhlen Bahnhof).
