Southeast of Jenbach, the Fugen Spieljoch ski area has 10 pistes served by six lifts with a maximum descent of 1,100m. The best Fugen Spieljoch snowboarding is during the months of January and February. The main base area for Spieljoch is actually located above the village of Fugen and the train station requiring a ski bus up to it.
While there are hotels in the old town of Fugen, many visitors prefer staying at the hotels up near the lift station. When it comes to apres ski, the best place is the Spieljochstadl Disco located just above the lower base station.
To reach the snowboarding at Fügen Spieljoch, take the train from Innsbruck or Munich to Jenbach. Then, transfer to the Zillertalbahn to head up the valley to Fügen. There is a ski bus from the train station into town and up to the Spieljochbahn base station. From town, there is also a bus up to Hochfugen ski area.
PRO TIP: there is a proposed lift that will eventually interconnect from Fugen Spieljoch heading south toward Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach ski area.
Overall, Fugen Spieljoch is the 63rd most popular snowboard & freeride destination of all 75 snowboarding resorts in Austria. Several of the better snowboarding resorts are nearby Fugen Spieljoch including Hintertux, Mayrhofen, Hochfugen, Zell Am Ziller, Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach and Gerlos.
